Why he's below Sidney Moncrief: I'm still not totally convinced he is better; their resumes are remarkably similar considering one's a guard and one's a center. They both have 2 DPOY awards, quality offensive games, and injury-shortened careers. I give Moncrief the smallest of edges because he stood out as a great defensive guard which Mourning was one of several great defensive centers of the 90s and early 2000s.

Why he's above the rest: Like Moncrief, Mourning is ranked far below all the other players who averaged 20 PPG and won DPOY in the same season, a feat that has only happened 12 times (Mourning and Moncrief each did it twice). Mourning competed for defensive awards against Hakeem, Robinson, and Mutombo despite being several inches shorter than any of them. Even long past his prime, Mourning found a way to contribute to a championship team. He blocked 5 shots in only 14 minutes in the deciding game 6 of the 2006 Finals.
