Why he's below George Mikan: He played roughly the same years as Mikan did and won 5 fewer MVPs. His points and rebounds and eFG% (basically the only stats tracked at the time) were all lower than Mikan's. His career did last about twice as long, but he didn't do anything during his extra 8 seasons, making 1st Team All-NBA only 1 time more than Mikan did.

Why he's above the rest: I admit it was kind of lazy on my part to put Mikan and Schayes right next to each other. Figuring out where to rank one of them was hard enough; I didn't want to have to deal with the other. Schayes was a great player though, making an All-NBA team 12 times in 15 seasons (before the 3rd Team existed too). He was the best player on one of the two championship teams in between the Mikan and the Pettit/Russell eras. Schayes was one of the best free throw shooters of all time. Only one player in league history has taken at least 10 free throws per game and made 90% of them (Durant), but Schayes came close, making 90.4% on 9.7 attempts per game in 1957-58, en route to a career high 24.9 PPG.
