Why he's below Sam Jones: Both were the #2 player on 6 championship teams, but Jones was a contributor on 4 other championship teams. Pippen's career is tough to judge because he spent most of his prime with Jordan. He was never the same player after he left the Bulls.

Why he's above the rest: Pippen was either 1st or 2nd on the Bulls in all 5 major stat categories in the postseason for all 6 of their championship runs (except for BPG in 1993, when he finished 3rd on the team). He was obviously overshadowed by Jordan in that dynasty, but Pippen overshadowed everyone else on the team just as much. And that's just his stats; he made an All-Defense Team each of those 6 seasons as well. Away from Jordan's shadow, he had two great runs: First, making the case that he was the best all-around player in the league in 1993-94 by finishing 3rd in MVP voting and winning the All Star MVP. And second, taking the veteran leader role on the 1999-2000 Trailblazers, leading them to within a game of the Finals.
